Needless to say it has been a year like no other! With full hearts that we thank everyone for their support of the Gavin Gladding Foundation Inaugural Golf tournament in 2019. Our memories of the event are still so fresh! We were on track for an equally successful 2nd Annual Golf Tournament in the fall of 2020 when, well, you can guess what happened to that. The Coronavirus pandemic has temporarily stopped life in its’ tracks, and GGF’s efforts have been no exception. Despite the obvious challenges, we remain dedicated to honoring Gavin’s memory however we can and looking for ways to support the causes he believed in.
The GGF awarded $5,000 in scholarships this year to Clovis West graduates Isabella Gliatta and Hayden Driggs to use toward furthering their educations. Air hugs were given, smiles were exchanged, and gratitude was visible on all faces. It is the vision of the GGF Board to continue to honor Gavin by remembering him yearly. While 2020 has forced us to suspend in-person fundraising efforts, it won’t stop us from granting scholarships!
Gavin would want us to continue to reward outstanding students forever. During 2020, GGF has made a 5-year commitment to support GambiaRising, in Gavin’s name. Another non-profit founded by a Peace Corps Volunteer in the same country Gavin served, The Gambia, our funds will be used to further the education and welfare of children.
We look forward to increasing our impact in 2021 when hopefully we will be able to resume fundraising events. In the meantime, please consider supporting GGF’s mission with an online contribution on our Donate page.
We ask you to keep us in your hearts as we continue to go forward with our efforts towards granting scholarships and preserving Gavin’s legacy.
